Real Ale - Axis IPA

I haven’t spent my entire life in Texas, but when I moved here one of the first local IPAs I happened to come across was Real Ale Brewing Company’s Axis IPA. And to be honest, it set a high mark for my journey through Texas IPAs and beers.

One thing that initially caught my eye was the label.  Now, I know what you’re saying, “Mr. Brew, you shouldn’t be judging a beer by its cover, tsk, tsk.” But I have to say that the label was one of the contributing factors that led to my purchase of this beer. The beautiful orange deer facing me headlong on the dark blue label. Phew! I fell in love with it. And the beer backed up the label in a mighty way.

Axis IPA from Real Ale in can, resting on and antler.

This beer is packed with fruity flavors and citrus notes that hold their own with the earthy and piney flavors. This beer is brewed with Eureka, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops to give it such a smooth and powerful flavor. And speaking of powerful, this beer comes in at 7.1% ABV and 60 IBUs floating around inside a shapely, pale golden body. Real Ale Brewing’s website suggests serving their signature Axis IPA with roasted pork carnitas, spicy braised tofu, and fried cheese curds.

If you haven’t heard of Real Ale Brewing, check out their website, or head to the quiet Hill Country town of Blanco, Texas, to visit their beer garden. They have many diverse beers on tap and they also have their own distillery - Real Spirits Distilling Company - if that’s more your taste.

I can honestly say that my love for Real Brewing products only started with the Axis IPA. They don’t make a product that I don’t love, and they take a lot of pride in their Texas Hill Country heritage. I still find myself buying a six-pack of Axis IPA on a regular basis. If you have a chance, head up (or down) Highway 281 to Blanco and have a beer with them.

Cheers,
Mr. Brew
