Big Bang - Peet’s Coffee Review
Another Peet’s coffee review coming at you. Up to brew today is Peet’s Big Bang – named in honor of Alfred Peet himself. Big Bang is a medium-roasted blend of Latin and African beans, bringing a complex mix of inherent earthy flavors from the Latin and citrusy flavors from the African beans. Add that to descriptors like vibrant, tropical, and smooth, and we might be in for a treat.
We brewed Big Bang to our usual specs in our French press: 50g, 32 oz of 200-202℉ water, steep 4-5 minutes. Right away, there is an active bloom (the more active a bloom, the fresher the grounds) and a tropical yet earthy aroma, which perfectly fits the natural flavors of the beans. I do not find the fruit to smell overly ripe, bordering more on the green, ripening side of fragrant, which is pleasant.
At first sip, there is a noted graham cracker flavor that offers a full mouth feel. It is followed by a sweet milk chocolate flavor before ending with a tropical fruity finish. The tropical fruits are mild in flavor, instead appearing as a bright finish with refreshing and drying notes of papaya and mango. The blend of Latin and African beans certainly comes through in flavors to create a complex and well-balanced brew.
Peet’s is always a good brand for well-roasted and delicious coffees, and Big Bang is right up there with their most popular. This is the perfect brew for someone looking for a dash of tropical freshness in their coffee that doesn’t dominate the palate.
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
