Peet’s Coffee 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar - Review
The holiday season is the time of honesty, giving, kindness, and if we are lucky, cold mornings that make sipping from a hot cup of coffee so much more satisfying. As avid coffee drinkers (and fans of wintry mornings) we were excited to see what was behind each door of the Peet’s 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar.
The countdown starts off with a Peet’s classic: Major Dickason’s Blend. It is perfectly smoky, with rich chocolate and caramel and a touch of stone fruit sweetness (plum, in my opinion). If you are new to Peet’s coffee, this is one of their most popular and is named after a loyal customer who brought the idea to Mr. Peet himself in 1969! (If that isn’t a coffee legacy worth sipping, show me what is!)
There are some other notable Peet’s coffees in the lineup, such as the French Roast (another Brew family favorite). But what is most exciting about the Advent Calendar is the rich diversity of beans and roasts. There are several Peet’s coffees in this lineup that I haven’t seen in stores or heard of. After starting with the iconic dark roast of Major Dickason’s Blend, there is a nice flow from dark roasts to medium and light, common and popular coffees to unique and rare flavors. It is a nice balance of roasts and flavors that challenged my palate (and preconceived opinions of some beans). And it is not just the mainstays (or coffees they are trying to clear off the shelf) behind each advent door. Peet’s includes specialty beans with unique stories such as their Kenya Auction Lot, Aged Sumatra, Uzuri African Blend, and their Jubilant Blend that surprised us and had us eager to come back the next day. (The rest are for you to discover.)
Without ruining the fun and surprise behind each door, let me just say that each bag of coffee is brimming with quality flavors and excellent roasting. The craft and expertise of Peet’s coffee is on display in every sip and I even tasted some excellent coffees that I was wary of due to bad previous experiences with similar varieties of beans. Peet’s 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar is the best way to taste different types of roasts and blends without ending up with twelve bags of coffee (and lots of money later) that I may or may not enjoy. It is a risk—yes, we take that risk often in the Brew house, but that doesn't make it any easier.
Each bag of coffee is 70g of a medium-fine grind, perfect for brewing in the French press or in a drip coffee maker. Peet’s (smartly) premeasured each bag of grounds to make your morning brewing effortless if using a drip coffee maker. Simply add all 70g and go! If you are like us and drink a French press everyday, we weighed out our usual 50g, leaving us 20g of leftovers. But don’t worry, it won’t go to waste.
Although this was gifted to us this year by Peet’s Coffee, I must ask: Would I buy this for myself and for family and friends? Is it worth the price? YES! The coffees are expertly roasted and ready to brew and it is a fun way to try lots of new coffees all at once. I will definitely look for this again in the years to come.
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
