Perform - Laird’s Coffee with Mushrooms Review
After our great introduction to coffee with mushrooms from Laird’s Focus blend, we were eager to see how Perform matched up. Perform is a blend of Peruvian coffee and chaga, lion’s mane, maitake, and cordyceps mushrooms.
The chaga mushroom boosts antioxidant power, the lion’s mane supports cognition and mood, the maitake strengthens the immune system, and the cordyceps elevates physical energy. With an outline like that plus the buzz of caffeine, who could resist?
Laird’s Perform has a gentle aroma that blends earthy and smoky notes. It has a minimal bloom, but produces a smooth and balanced cup of coffee with a slight touch of citrus in both aroma and the finish. I previously thought the citrus was an attribute of the coffee cherry present in the Focus blend, but I believe the citrus (orange-like over lemony) is a trait of the Peruvian coffee beans. The earthy notes in the aroma subdue the brighter qualities of the coffee and maintain a balance of acidity and the medium roast qualities we love.
The effects of Perform were less noticeable than Focus (which has coffee cherries for immune function, lion’s mane for cognition and mood, and rhodiola extract to reduce fatigue and stressors), but Perform still left Mr. Brew and I refreshed and ready to take on the day. Neither of us felt the need for an afternoon pick-me-up, but felt sustained by Perform’s blend of energy-inducing mushrooms.
If you are looking for an easy way to boost your mood and strengthen your immune system in the process, look into Laird’s Coffee with Mushrooms and take home a bag of Perform. Although it is more on the expensive side, the effects of the coffee and nutrients from the mushrooms are worth it.
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
