Apple Cider Donut - Bones Coffee Review

Here in South Texas, the fall weather is finally starting to sweep in and I predict that the leaves will turn and fall any day now. So with the feeling of fall finally appearing, we are back at it with flavors from Bones’ Fall Favorites collection. Up first, the Apple Cider Donut.

We brewed Apple Cider Donut to our usual specs in the French press: 202℉ water, 32 oz, 50g grounds, steep 3-5 minutes.

This brew has a very active bloom—telling of Bones Coffee’s relentless commitment to freshly roasted beans. Right away, there is no denying that this is apple cider. The apple is forward both in flavor and aroma and is delicately surrounded by delicious spices and a mulled quality. To me, it tastes as though hot apple cider has been warming in a pot for an entire day, the scents of fall wafting through the air. There is a slightly bready flavor (though less bready than the Churro from Bones’ lineup) and has a medium body to help buoy and support such bright flavors. I was worried it might be overly acidic, but I am pleased to say it is not, especially for an apple coffee. Mr. Brew caught a hint of cherry in the aroma, which may be the mulled quality I noted earlier.

Barista Note: Don’t let a single ground go unbrewed! Bones’ Fall Favorites collection comes as a sample pack with each bag containing 114g (4 oz). That equaled two brews in our French press with a little left over. Use the leftovers to add a zing of flavor to another coffee that is mild or has dark roast qualities with little extra flavoring.

One thing we always commend Bones Coffee for in the Brew household is their ability to accurately portray flavors in their beans, whether ground or whole bean. Every bag is delivered freshly roasted with an excellent attention to detail of flavor. If you are a fan of brighter, apple-flavored coffees, this is definitely a must try for fall. There is no doubt that this is an Apple Cider Donut in a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
