Fabled Brew - Just Coffee Co-Op Review
Big, brutal, bullish. These are the three words chosen by Just Coffee Co-op to describe their Fabled Brew. And man, they are on top of it.
We bought Fabled Brew in whole bean and first noticed that the beans are oilier than some recent brews—our first clue to how dark this Fabled Brew really is (hotter and longer roasting time releases the oils in the beans, which coats the surface—the darker the roast, the oilier the bean). Once ground and bloomed in our French press, we note a smoky aroma. That smoke lightens a touch in the flavor and is met with notes of dark chocolate (more bitter than sweet) and a dry finish. As far as dark roasts go, this is a reasonably balanced smoky coffee that doesn’t leave your palate overwhelmed.
Fabled Brew is labeled a dark roast, but it is much more reminiscent of a French roast with its dark, intense, and smoky flavors. If you are a fan of good dark coffees, add this to your shelf. It is just a good coffee (and affordable) and will make you say “ahhh” after that first sip.
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
